Bio:

Dr. Eric Yang is Interim Associate Vice Provost of Global Strategies and International Affairs. Dr. Yang has a strong academic preparation and varied professional experience in international education, cultural and academic exchange, and Chinese language and culture promotion in the United States. Yang also has a broad range of teaching experience in both secondary education and at the university levels in two different cultures (China and the US). He also has excellent experience teaching Chinese as second language to American students. On the research side, Yang has a strong background in research in the areas of gifted and talented education and US-China comparative education. He has presented his work at a number of national and international conferences, and published a number of articles internationally. He is the co-author and/or co-editor of Teaching in the United States: The US K-12 Teachers; Frontiers in American Educational Research, Good Schools and Good Students: Research Findings on American Effective Schools; Why Not Best Schools?–The China Report; and Why Not Best Schools?–The US Report.

Yang received his Ph. D in Educational Psychology/Gifted and Talented Education from the University of Connecticut. He also holds a Master degree in Sociology from Wuhan University and graduated from a teachers college majoring in Teaching English as a Second Language. Prior to his current position, Yang served as Director of International Programs and Services at the University of Rio Grande and Rio Grande Community College. Yang has also held the titles of director/dean, executive director, associate director, international fellowship program manager, lecturer/assistant professor and high school ESL teacher at East Asia Initiatives/Confucius Institute at Auburn University at Montgomery, Confucius Institute at the University at Buffalo, Michigan State University, University of Connecticut, Wuhan University, and Weixian No. 1 High School.
