- Obtain your KSU I-20 (link to Obtaining your I-20 on International Student Advising
and Transition Services). The Form I-20 is the Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant
Student Status. You will need this Form to apply for your student visa to enter the
United States. The Form I-20 is an important document that you should keep safe. And
it is extremely important that you keep all copies of your I-20 with you at all times while traveling. You will need it throughout your international student
life cycle.
- When you receive your I-20 (via email), PLEASE double check on the I-20 information
and make sure everything is accurate and consistent, print it out, sign and date.
- Schedule a visa interview appointment to the local US Embassy/Consulate that is close
to you. Use the SEVIS ID number on the top left of your I-20. You will need to pay
visa application fee of $185. Double check on your local US Embassy/Consulate website
to determine the application fee. Please schedule your visa interview appointment
ASAP. Check out the International Student Handbook for detailed advice and suggestions
on your visa interview.
- Pay the I-901 SEVIS fee. Regulation requires all prospective F-1 students and J-1
scholars/students to pay the I-901 Student and Exchange Visitor Information System
(SEVIS) Fee before you are issued a visa. To pay the I-901 SEVIS Fee, visit their website to access the SEVIS Form I-901.
- When you have your visa, double check on the information and make sure everything
is accurate and consistent.
- Watch for emails from your Designated School Official (DSO). Your DSO will serve as
a primary resource for you before you arrive and while you’re enrolled at KSU.
- Apply for Campus Housing:

- Prepare for your travel and entry to the Unites States of America (please check out
the International Student Handbook for detailed advice and suggestions).
- Contact your DSO for airport transportation.
- Mandated check-in with the Office of Global Strategies and International Affairs)
- Complete course registration and activate your KSU email (you may do this before your
prior to your travel). Once you are fully registered and have your class schedule, your KSU email is automatically generated. Use the links below to learn how to login
to your email, Blackboard, and Wired:
- Attend the mandatory orientation for all new international students.
Please NOTE: As a new international student, you are not permitted to enter the U.S. more than 30 days before the program start date indicated on your I-20.
