Bias and Incident Reporting at KSU
Kentucky State University is dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful campus environment where everyone can thrive and reach their full potential. We are committed to ensuring that all individuals are treated with civility and respect. If you experience, witness, or become aware of a bias incident, we encourage you to submit a report to notify the university. Reporting incidents helps KSU provide support to those affected and take proactive steps to prevent future occurrences.
What are Incidents of Bias?
A bias incident refers to any behavior, speech, or expression motivated in whole or in part by bias or prejudice. Such actions are intended to intimidate, demean, mock, degrade, marginalize, or threaten individuals or groups based on their actual or perceived identities.
What is the Bias Reporting System?
Kentucky State University is deeply committed to its mission of providing access to education for all individuals with the passion and determination to learn. In support of this mission and in alignment with our core values, KSU embraces and upholds diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential pillars of our community. Any act of hate or bias stands in opposition to these principles and the welcoming environment we strive to create.
The Bias Reporting System is designed to help understand and address bias-related incidents at Kentucky State University to better support our diverse campus community. This system serves three primary purposes:
Support
Our top priority is providing support to individuals affected by perceived bias-related incidents. The Bias Assessment Team offers resources and guidance to those who report an incident or are identified as a target, if contact information is available. These resources aim to help individuals navigate their experiences and emotions.
Education
The Bias Reporting System fosters opportunities for optional, educational dialogue with individuals or groups who, intentionally or unintentionally, may have caused harm through bias-related actions. These conversations are centered on learning, offering context for why certain behaviors may be perceived as biased, and encouraging growth and understanding. Learning better allows us to do better.
Assessment
By analyzing reported incidents and tracking trends, Kentucky State University can gauge the campus climate regarding bias. This data helps inform the development of training programs and educational initiatives to promote a more inclusive and respectful university environment.
